Mental Health Bible Study Podcast
This Mental Health Bible Study Podcast is hosted by Tyra E. Rowell, an empath who loves to talk about life, faith, and mental health despite her speech impediment due to being born with a hearing loss. She is an introvert with many roles and responsibilities who still finds time to create.
Let's talk about why she decided to create this Mental Health Bible Study Podcast. For three reasons. 1. To share knowledge that is not being taught in the church about mental health which is in the Bible. 2. To share knowledge about the psyche of human beings. Psyche means soul. Your soul is the seat of your feelings, thoughts, and willpower to choose. 3. To share knowledge that will uplift God's people and show them ways on how to live a balanced life being free, whole, healed, and happy.

Hello, hello, hello. How are you all on this day? Happy New Year, and I hope you had a wonderful, wonderful holiday and we are here in 2025, and it is a blessing that we are here seeing another day, and you know what that means. That means that you get another day to be grateful, another day to be thankful. Also, another day to also create some space for love, peace and joy. Yes, Lord, thank you, Lord.
Tyra:So make sure that you are being mindful of what you are thinking, because, as you think it, you're probably going to feel it and as you feel it, you may behave it. So, just in case, you may have some transformation type of goal that's going on for the year of 2025, because you know the Bible says that in order to be transformed, you have to renew your mind. So, if you have some goals where you are trying to transform, or you know behaviors there are some behaviors that you are trying to change you know what I mean Some things that you don't want to do anymore. You know some habits that you are trying to get rid of, or maybe you know some good habits that you want to pick up on, most definitely you have to renew your mind. Okay, most definitely, you have to renew your mind, okay. So what is that saying? That is saying that we have to have a mental training. If I were to break this down, baby, that's exactly what I'm saying have a mental training, because it's all mental, because it's all mental. So, for example, I am in the process of creating a good habit, and that habit is making sure that I write, because I am an author and I am hoping to have a manuscript in three months. So my goal is to make sure that I write every single day, every single day.
Tyra:So guess what it's mental. It's mental Because I can sit here and say that I'm going to do it, and it's good, it's good to make decisions, it's good to say, hey, I'm going to do this, I am going to wake up at such and such time and I'm going to do this and I'm going to spend this amount of time on making sure that I stay focused and right. Okay, but, babe, guess what? When it gets to that day whatever day it is that you say you're going to start, you're fighting, you're fighting. You're fighting Because you're fighting against whatever that's going on within you, yep, and you're fighting against whatever that's going around you outside. So it's an external and internal type of conversation that you're having, because you're like, oh, all these things going on around me and then I'm dealing with some things on the inside, why can't I just get up and just do what I said I'm going to do?
Tyra:Because you have to go through that mental training. You have to renew your mind, especially when you're trying to consistently create a habit. So renewing your mind is a process. I hope people are not thinking that this is something that you can absolutely do overnight, because you can make a decision overnight. You sure can. You can do that within an instant. That only takes a few seconds.
Tyra:But actually doing it, implementing it, applying it, it's going to take more than just making a decision. You're basically going to have to go through the process of getting yourself mentally ready, because as you think it, you're going to feel it and as you feel it you're going to behave it. So if I'm saying that I want to behave like I am a writer, that means I have to train my brain to absolutely get up as if I'm getting paid to write. Okay, because it's so easy for me to get up in the morning, especially at 5 o'clock, and do my workout and then, after I work out, I'm going to my job. That I know going to pay, that's so easy because we know we got to do that. If we want to eat, if we want to go buy some things, if we want to go pay our bills, we're going to do what we got to do. But when it comes to things that you know, that's not like a motivation like that because that is a good motivation, by the way, you know, to be able to get your pay. But you also have to have that motivation as well when it is something that is not like that, where you are, you know not getting paid. You know, eventually I am talking to myself now I am going to be getting paid after You know, I get a publisher for this book, but that has to be getting paid after I get a publisher for this book, but that has to be my motivation. So what is your motivation? So you have a transformation goal. What is your motivation? What is motivating you to absolutely get up every single morning and do it? Because it is going to be about your motivation.
Tyra:Remember what I just said. What you think is how you feel. Mm-hmm, your feelings are going to be all involved in that motivation. It really is. But I know how some people say your motivation it has to be, you know, more intense than your feelings. It has to be above it, it has to rise above it. You know, more intense than your feelings, it has to be above it, it has to rise above it, you know. But let's just be real.
Tyra:Some things are very hard to just do, especially if you're trying to change your behavior, especially one that was not good, and you're trying to make sure that it is a healthy habit. It's going to take some discipline and it's going to take some mental training, because you're going to always have to wake up and say what is my purpose for doing this, what is my purpose for doing this, what is my why for doing this? Your motivation is going to be the key, but it's a mental training. So, while you're in the process of trying to you know, I guess accomplish these transformation goals, have those conversations within yourself, you know, write down those motivations, because those are going to be the reasons and the purposes for actually doing it, actually doing it, actually doing it, because you do want to be able to just wake up and say, hey, I'm really different now. You know, I'm no longer doing x, y, z. That's a blessing.
Tyra:If you are already doing those things, I applaud you for it, you know. Please be grateful for those days, those weeks or those hours or those minutes where you actually have turned it over to the Lord to say I am doing things differently this year. It's a blessing. So, keep going, keep moving, you will do it, you will make it Okay, you will accomplish, you will do it. And if you fall, give yourself some grace and get up, dust yourself off and do it again. So if you mess up today on something that you ate and you know you ain't paid to have it, okay, you see tomorrow, guess what, it's a brand new day For the mercy. Give yourself some grace and say this day I'm starting fresh, I'm doing it again, I'm getting up, I'm trying it again, I'm getting up, I'm doing it again. Even in that day, I'm getting up and I'm trying it again, I'm getting up, I'm doing it again. Even in that day, I'm getting up and I'm doing it again, because that's what makes it something that you actually are doing. You're doing it.
Tyra:Now, if you just sit around here saying, well, I'm trying. I'm really. I'm just going to tell you right now, baby, trying and doing are not the same. They are not the same. They ain't even the same vocabulary. They just not Trying and doing. I'm trying. I really am no, baby. The question is are you doing it? Are you doing it? Are you doing it? Are you doing it? Are you doing it? Are you doing what you said? Are you doing what you have made the decision to do? Okay, when I look up trying versus doing, trying implies effort and intention Okay, effort and intention, but success is not guaranteed.
Tyra:While doing means actively engaging in a task and making progress, mm-hmm, doing is you are actually doing something. Trying means you're just implying, baby, you're just doing some talking. You're trying, you know, and there's nothing talking. You trying, you know, and there's nothing wrong with to be talking about it. There's nothing wrong with processing it. There's nothing wrong with journaling about it. There's nothing wrong with telling your friend about it. There's nothing wrong with walking over to the neighbor's next door and saying you know, guess what? Oh, there's nothing wrong with that baby. But guess what? Talking and walking is two different things. You're going to have to do some walking on that. Talking. That means actually doing what you said that you are going to do, because that's what implying means I'm going to do it.
Tyra:So trying and doing is two different things, so just do it. Like Nike says just do it. Do it. Okay, just do it. If you say that you're going to lose some pounds, okay, do it. You already know the steps to do it, so do those things. That means you're eating, exercising, making sure that you are preparing yourself for that too, because if you are not preparing yourself, you're not preparing those meals, you're not getting those workout clothes out the night before or making sure that when you are out and about that, hey, you got some healthy snacks with you. See, those are implements of doing.
Tyra:You know I'm actually doing something, but trying, trying going to be like I'm going to be, I'm just going to wait till tomorrow to see if I'm going to get up and work out. But a person who's actually doing something, they're actually going to wait till tomorrow to see if I'm going to get up and work out. But a person who's actually doing something, they're actually going to put their workout clothes and have it right there by the bed. You know, and say hmm, and set the alarm and say I'm getting up at this time and making sure the alarm go off at the time, so that you know that, hey, in the morning, mentally, I'm telling you right now, body, you're going to get up at 5 o'clock. So you know the night before what you're doing is having that mental training. Hey, at 5 am we're getting up. Baby, I'm just letting you know. And when I say by we, that means you talking to yourself, because you do have to talk to yourself when you have a mental training. All right, so don't forget that, have those conversations with yourself, which means that you are telling your body that this is what we're going to do. We're getting up at 5 am. I got my nightclothes over here on the nightstand. You see him? Yeah, I see you. You see my eyeballs? Yeah, okay, eyeballs. See the nightclothes sitting on the nightstand, got my towel and everything, all right. So I got my alarm set and we're going to get up at 5 am and we are going to do 30 minutes. So be prepared.
Tyra:Getting up at 5 am, 5 am comes, you hear the alarm going off and all you can do is turn it on and have that conversation with yourself. Okay, you remember, I told you last night. We're getting up at 5 am, so we got to get up. So let's say that, for example, you're laying there and you're just like, oh my God, my body's just feeling like it just don't want to get up. I mean, I just need five more minutes. Let me just snooze this alarm for five more minutes, this alarm for five more minutes. You know, instead of saying that, hey, I need, you know, three more minutes or I'm just having a hard time getting up out of this bed, I would prefer that you say, lord, help me get out of this bed. Help me, Jesus, to get out of this bed, because I need the strength, because we had made a decision that we were getting up at 5 am and we were going to do right through the minutes, lord, so please get me out this bed, give me the strength, lord. God, what is my reason for making sure? I mean, what was our reason for even setting this clock so that we can get up and do 30 minutes? Okay, so why we ain't got the bed yet then? Okay. So, Jesus, the legs, they don't want to get up. So what we're going to do is we're going to, you know, slide it on over one leg at a time. You know, maybe if I just kick my feet up under the cover, you know one feet at a time, but I still got my eyes closed, you know, and I'm just sliding out the bed One at a time, one leg at a time, one foot at a time, and all while I'm doing all that, trying to get this body in suggestion, I'm calling on Jesus. Jesus, we just trying to make it so we can get to this workout.
Tyra:The conversation is the key. What did I say? Mental training is the key. I also said preparation is the key. Your motivation is the key to also making sure that you are creating healthy habits.
Tyra:These are some very good keys man, mental training, motivation, communication. Yes, Lord, communication, it's the key. You have to have those conversations with the Lord. You have to have those conversations with the Lord. You have to have those conversations with yourself, most definitely, because you are the one who is in control of your body. Hallelujah, Thank you, Jesus. That is one of the fruits of the Spirit, by the way self-control. So you are the one who's in control of the body. So you're going to have to have a conversation and be like baby you ain't in control of me. I'm in control of you. So we're going to have this mental training right now.
Tyra:We're going to have this conversation, because I already made my decision, I already wrote the goal down on paper and I have already gave my motivation.
Tyra:So we're going to do it.
Tyra:We ain't going to try, we are going to do it. Thank you, lord. And don't you know, when you have done that habit that you have set for yourself, you're going to be so thankful. You're going to be so thankful Because there have been many times I had to call on Jesus to help me and when I was done with that workout, I was so grateful and I was so thankful and I said, lord, I pray. I was done with that workout, I was so grateful and I was so thankful and I said, lord, I pray and I thank you for, you know, getting me up because it was rough, you know, but I did it, you know. You feel so good because you did it, you know, and you want to do it again the next day. You know making it a habit. And I don't know how many days things become a habit Now, according to, you know, google, it say about 21 days, but I need to be doing every single day that I'm able to see and I'm able to do it.
Tyra:So, whatever your goal is, just make sure that you are doing a mental training, because we are, we can, we are able to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. All right, so don't forget mental training, motivation and communication. That means communicating with the Lord and also communicating with yourself. So, for a happy new year. This is what I wanted to come out here and tell you about, because that's what most of the people do anyway. You know, when the New Year rolls around, they want to, you know, throw out the old and bring in the new.
Tyra:And whatever that new year that you are trying to transform into, make sure that you are doing these psychological steps by having a mental training baby, because it's so, so important that you renew your mind, and you have to renew it by having some mental training. So, just in case you do want to also add some scriptures in there as well, just look up those scriptures for those habits that you're trying to incorporate into your life, because there is a scripture for everything, everything. When I do say everything, I do mean everything. So, just, you know, so that would be your spiritual strength by having those scriptures, and then you'll have your psychological you know ways of how you can create these new habits and as well as your physical, because they all have to be bounded Spirit, soul and body. All right.
Tyra:So I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful day on this day and just create space, okay, create space for love, peace and joy. Hallelujah, thank you, Jesus, and continue to show yourself some grace, because we all we all, baby have fallen short of the glory of the Lord. But at the same time, when you fall, what's important is how you get up, how you react to it. Okay, be mindful that whatever you do is so important. Because how, the way you react to it, it is a part of life. Things are going to be going on around us, but how, the way you react to it is really going to be the key, and I would rather you unlock it with some good behavior, all right, so be kind to yourself now, because the Lord do want you to be kind to yourself, and while you're being kind to yourself, I would want you to also love others, and not only just love others, but love the Lord and also love yourself.
